My Story

Sunnie Hope Morrison is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) who earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational and Clinical Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from Azusa Pacific University. She is on her pathway to becoming a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) and is also currently working as a local School Counselor.  She has over twenty years of experience working in education with Pre-K thru 12th-grade children and their families.

Sunnie brings her collective educational experiences into her clinical practice to create an eclectic and pragmatic approach to each session.  With years of experience in teaching, special education advocacy, and psychoeducation, she applies a direct counseling approach to provide each client with a trusted and compassionate perspective.

Sunnie has worked with a wide range of children and their families during the pandemic offering mental health counseling to those children suffering from grief & loss, loneliness, isolation, academic apathy, social & emotional regression, depression, suicidality, anxiety, identity issues and various sorts of trauma.  She is very passionate about counseling those clients going through family strains such as co-parenting/blended family challenges, parent-child relationship breakdown, divorce, various states of stress, and life transition struggles.

Sunnie’s specialty are those clients seeking to gain greater confidence, a positive identity & improved self-worth.  She loves helping clients improve their overall social, emotional, and mental health development through the use of various therapeutic modalities such as Solutions Focused, CBT, Trauma-Informed Care, and Person-Centered therapy. Sunnie’s goal in therapy is to improve and enhance the lives of her clients through the use of a strength-based approach that bolsters their confidence and grounds clients in a renewed sense of positive affirming authentic identity.

She strives to live up to her bright and cheery name by serving clients in a sincere, upbeat, and joy-filled manner; adding humor, levity, novelty, and fun to the therapy sessions.

Sunnie has experience working with children with special needs and has great empathy, insight, and passion for families trying to navigate new diagnoses or those dealing with school or family strains due to the complexities that can accompany Autism, ADD/ADHD, ODD or Anxiety diagnosis. Sunnie has been a relentless advocate for her own son with autism spectrum disorder and has a huge heart for families facing similar dynamics.

She’s dedicated to helping her clients feel seen, known, and heard in each session.

Sunnie also has experience working with couples offering premarital counseling in a faith-based setting. For clients seeking a faith-based or Christian-centered approach to get their marriage back on track, Sunnie is glad to honor and incorporate those tenets into a treatment plan if desired. Sunnie is affirming to all people and is excited to work with a diverse group of clients from every age, culture, and creed. Sunnie’s overall vision for her clients is to empower them to make the most out of therapy, accomplish their personal goals, and walk away with an increased sense of hope, healing, and purpose.

When she’s not working, Sunnie loves to spend time with her big beautiful blended family; enjoying simple things like relaxing on her porch swing, playing with her boxer dog, Baxter, taking beach trips, hanging out with her husband & two teenage sons, and traveling to new places!
